The emotional and mental demands placed on creatives are immense. Research by Documentality has helped name what many of us have long felt: the toll of this work is real. Between funding challenges, systemic inequity, and exposure to trauma – burnout and overwhelm are common, even expected.

Who It's For
This retreat is for all creative change-makers—filmmakers, artists, musicians, writers, performers, founders, and visionaries—who are ready to replenish their inner well and reconnect with the deeper why behind their work. We live in a world that constantly pulls us outward—into our heads, into the noise, into cycles of burnout. But the creative impulse doesn’t come from hustle. It arises from stillness. Through breathwork and meditation, we quiet the noise and return to the present moment. In that stillness, we gain access to something deeper: No prior experience with breathwork or meditation is needed. Just come as you are.
Origins and Lineage
The Creator’s Retreat is rooted in the wisdom of Gurudev Sri Sri Ravi Shankar, a globally renowned humanitarian, spiritual teacher, and founder of The Art of Living Foundation. His mission is to create a stress-free, violence-free society, and his techniques, particularly the Sudarshan Kriya™, have helped millions worldwide unlock clarity, calm, and vitality. This retreat is offered by certified Art of Living teachers who are also creative professionals and storytellers themselves. We know the terrain—and we’re walking it with you.
The Science
Sudarshan Kriya™ has been the subject of over 100 independent studies published in peer-reviewed journals. Documented benefits include:
- Enhanced emotional regulation
- Improved sleep and mental clarity
- Boosted immune function
- Increased alpha brain waves

A Personal Note
“Back in 2003, just a few months before I picked up a camera and flew to the Philippines to begin my first feature documentary, I stumbled into an Art of Living center in NYC. At the time, I was an insomniac, desperate for rest. Someone told me this breathing technique might help…and it did.
But what I found was much more than sleep. I discovered a way to be fully present with myself, with my creative work, and with the people whose stories I was entrusted to tell. As I went deeper into documentary filmmaking, I realized that tending to my own inner lens was just as vital as any camera or craft. These practices have become the most essential tools I carry. Yes, they help me stay buoyant in an industry filled with pressure, emotional weight, and uncertainty. But more than that, they give me direct access to my own creative well – to that quiet, intuitive voice that knows what choice to make in the edit, which direction to follow in a story, and how to navigate the process with joy instead of fear.
I return to these practices not just to manage stress, but to remember myself. And from that space, everything flows.”
